FAQ - STONEHENGE

How does a Stonehenge Roof stand up to a hurricane?
Excellent! Wind does not have a chance to catch the bottom edge of the panels. Because, they are mechanically fastened in such a way that virtually eliminates any blow-off. Stonehenge is so confident in this feature that they have a "120-mph Wind Warranty". Stonehenge Roofs have not only passed tests with much higher wind speeds, but also passed “real world” tests on homes in neighborhoods that have faced some of the worst storms of gusts a lot more powerful than 120-mph and flying debris.

Isn't a metal roof noisy in heavy rain?

Uncoated or painted metal roofs can be noisy. Stonehenge metal roofs are protected by coatings of acrylic and stone that deaden the sound of rain or hail. The "dead air" space under each tile turns a torrential downpour into a dull hum.

Won't a metal roof be hot in the hot sun?

Stonehenge Roofing is raised above the surface beneath it by about 2.5 inches. This provides an insulated dead air space reducing how far the radiant heat of the sun can penetrate into the roof and in essence shading the materials below. Most other roof products lay flat against the plywood or skip sheeting thereby directly transferring any heat absorbed by the sun to the materials and room below. In addition it is strongly recommended in hot climates to add a reflective radiant barrier and insulation to reduce the amount of heat entering the home - which keeps it cooler and more comfortable on a hot day. This also greatly reduces the expensive energy requirements to air-condition a space.

Can I walk on my roof?

Yes. Our roofs are strong! When walking on the roof it is best to; wear soft-soled shoes, walk on the "nose" of the panels across the roof and in the "pans" when walking up and down the roof.

How do I maintain my roof?

Sit back, relax and forget about having to do any maintenance on your roof. Stonehenge roof should remain maintenance free for many, many years to come.

How heavy is a Stonehenge roof?

Stonehenge roofs weigh only 1.4 lbs. per square foot, far less than wet wood shakes, less than composition shingles, and 5 to 10 lbs. per square foot less than concrete. You will not need to re-engineer or reinforce your existing roof structure. Stonehenge panels are light enough to be installed overtop of most existing roofs.

Will it burn?

Steel doesn't burn. It will protect your home from flying embers even in a firestorm where a stiff wind blows burning particles across your roof.

Will it break?

Stonehenge roof tiles are formed of steel. So breakage is not an issue. They will not break, crack, or de-laminate like many other roofing materials.

Isn't a steel roof more expensive?

The old adage "you get what you pay for" certainly holds true here. Yes, composition roofs can "cheaper" but you will only pay for a steel roof once! In addition, when you sell your house the added value of a Stonehenge stone coated steel roof will more than pay for itself.

How strong is your Warranty?
This is where Stonehenge Roofing Products really shine! Our "LIFETIME Limited WARRANTY" is the best in the industry! In so many words you are protected from manufacturing defects in both the steel itself AND the surface coatings for as long as you own your home. If you transfer your warranty to the next successive owner, that owner is covered for 50 years from the date the roof was installed. The warranty is non-prorated for 50 years no matter how many times it is transferred. A real selling point for you, and real protection for them! This is a real win-win warranty for all involved. Read other warranties carefully and see what they really say!
